Xia Xuanze hails from Zhejiang, China. He was selected to join the Zhejiang badminton team in 1989 and China's national team seven years later in 1996. He represented China at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and won a silver medal in the men's singles competition. He officially retired on February 11, 2007 and in the same year was appointed as the assistant coach for China's national women's team. Today he is the coach for China's national men's team
